Shukracharya – the guru of the Daityas

Young Shukra, son of Sage Bhrigu, studied with Brihaspati under his father Sage Angirasa. He was also the doctor (Vaidya) for the Devas. Even though Shukra was brighter than Brihaspati, the latter was appointed after his father as the designation was hereditary. Disappointed with the decision, Shukra decided to pursue a new path and worship Lord Shiva. The Hermit God taught him the science of resurrection, for which he is renowned today. Shukracharya became the guru of the Daityas, seeing it as an opportunity to do his moral duty as well as revenge against Brihaspati. His resurrection skills came in handy when the Devas and Daityas were in battle.
